paper art
When I was sharing my first book, reflect & expand, with all of the special people in my life, I wanted to include a special bookmark, custom made for each person, part of the whole wanting to be "the one who lives with a full/moon in each eye saying/in that sweet moon language what every other/eye in the world is dying to hear" (see the full poem on the about page). I'm kind of neurotic when it comes to not wasting things, so I had a huge stack of paper with random abstract art that I'd created with leftover paint from kids painting in my office (kids tend to get quite zealous when it comes to squeezing out paint!), from wiping paint off of putty knives or squeegees that I used in my own paintings at home, and from messing around with different painting techniques. I had found an old-school paper cutter at a garage sale a couple summers before that, so I spent an entire weekend chopping up painted papers into bookmarks, and then I used a pack of word stickers to create little 2- or 3-word messages/mini-poems on each one.

I had so much fun with that process that I decided to include a bookmark with every book, and then I had all kinds of other leftover slices of art from the paper cutting process, so I started using those along with all the random painted paper to make cards, and I started including a card with each mail order. Several people have asked if they can buy the cards and bookmarks by themselves, so I've decided to start making them to sell (shop here). If you have any special requests, please send me a message and I'd be happy to make something just for you!
